Those that have trained boys, what are your tips?

Advice:

Don't force it, it only will drive you mad.
Throw some cheerios in and let them sink them.
We trained standing up first, then sitting (I didn't seen an advantage either way)

we trained all ours sitting first because we didnt want a ooops out the wrong end (tmi) and it still happened ounce or twice after we trained them to stand.

we gave them lots to drink all day. took them potty alot first every 15-20 min and if they did well we made the time longer. if they went in the potty we had a small prize lit a gummy bear every time or 2 m&ms....

my first 2 took a week-2 weeks and no accidents after that. connor is doing well but dribbles on his clothes alot when he stands.

Oh man... boys are hard! My DD trained in 2 days with only 2 accidents ever.... and my DS #1 didn't train until he was 4 (and still has accidents at 7). With him, we started around 18 mos. and found no success with anything we tried. Finally, on his 4th birthday, he woke up and said "I will start using the potty now." It was all a decision thing for him. I have an almost 3 yr old boy and a baby boy that I DREAD PTing. I'm a firm believer in waiting until your child is ready.... I'm just hoping the other two boys are ready before 4!

Don't force the issue! It only causes you more frustration and more problems for him. Let him decide when he is ready, and slowly try to direct him to go in the potty.

Naked, really it works. It's much easier to tell when a little boy is gonna pee if he is naked, and have the potty close.

My DS was potty trained at 2.5 yrs old. NAKED is the only way to go, we let him run around naked (we lived the spring/summer outside, or on the granite/marble kitchen floor) so he could see what it looked like when he had the feeling to go, and then we would say to him thats potty, you do that in the toilet. And after a week of just observing himself pee he put the two together, and started peeing in toiled (potty chair) outside every time. I stil havent cut out the night time wetting, but we are working on that, we are now trying to wake him every 3-4 hrs to pee. DD was much easier, she is two and potty trained as well.Although we did have LESS accidents with DS supprisingly!

Anthony trained naked too! It works great. I didn't use pullups. If he urinated in the toilet he got 2 jelly beans and if he had a BM he got 4 jelly beans. He was trained in 2 weeks. After the first week we used no diapers for night time or naps. So far no accidents. It's been 5 weeks now!:hooray: 1 down 2 to go!

My son will go potty on the toilet and has for a long time, but he hasn't pooped in the potty yet! He will still go in his diaper as well. So and I am not sure what else to do. I have an older boy and my dh in the house and I would of thought it would of been easy! Does anybody have any advice for me?

Glad this is posted.
I am having a hard time with consistency, mainly DHs fault.
I am trying to train, while working full time, DS (21 months) in daycare.
DH doesnt seem to want to cooperate!! If I take off a pamper to let him go naked, Dh puts one on him! He wont flush the ca-ca down the potty with DS and doesnt have him sit on the potty!
He doesnt see the need to train him! He says hes just a baby(who is showing signs). My argument is...WE HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY!!
Any advice on preping and training DH??

When do you start? What are readiness signs?

I never used a potty seat... I had my boys sit on the toilet backwards and I used the Cheerio idea with both of them. We put Cheerio's into the toilet and I had my son go into the bathroom with my DH. My DH used the restroom and squirted the Cheerio's with his urine. My boys thought it was the funniest thing in the world and as soon as they realized they could do it, it was hard to get them off the toilet.

I also put the thick undies on them and let them play outside in our backyard... after they had an accident they didn't like the way the wet undies felt.

I did both of these together and it only took me about 3-5 days for them to be potty trained at 2 1/2 years old.

:luck:

I started the beginnings of potty training when DS could sit up good by himself. I used a potty chair. I put him on it right after he ate and said "potty, good boy". Of course at that time it was hit or miss. The point was to get him used to the potty.

When he understood better what was going on, he sat on the potty and we pointed the stream downwards. The deflector on potties only work when they stay put, else it falls in (yuck). For poop, I trained him the same way I did my daughter; he went when I went. At the time I was a single mom so hey, we all poop the same, right?

I didn't worry about him peeing like a "big boy" until before he started school, around 3 or 4. I think at this time I was married to my 1st husband so that helped. Before that, though, he just sat on the "big potty" when he was too old for the potty chair.

During his pt years, the pull-ups had just come out so I was using those. I think my son was completely pt by 2 1/2 (no pullups, no wet bed) but my daughter was pt by 18 mths. I never used any rewards for successful potty, just positive vocal reinforcement.

So if you let them run around naked how do you know they're getting ready to go?

The pull on it and sort of squat. Caleb does it w/the diaper on or naked When he had his diaper rash I had to leave his doaper off and it was easy to tell. COuldn't get him to go in a potty, or anywhwere I directed him to. He thought it was a game.....or was afraid I was trying to dress him, not sure which. I'm not sure what they do for the other, I imagine a squatting motion too.

My DS is fully potty trained with peeing, but not pooping. He's 3 1/2 years old and I am at my wits end with the pooping, so anyone with pooping advice, I need it too.:truce:
