Since lots of us are ready to jump on the bandwagon and dive into some books together, I thought we should get some suggestions on what books we'd like to read. I'm willing to keep track of suggestions in the different genres here, so we'd have the ability to break out into different reading club per genre if we wanted to. We can start a separate thread per book for discussion if that makes sense. If I missed a genre too let me know and I'll add it.

Well, I have more books than anyone should possess, but has anyone read or is anyone interested in the book that Madonna's brother put out?? I just bought that one but haven't started it. I also know a lot of people have read these already, but what about the Stephanie Meyers Twilight series?? I bought those too and haven't started them. I have a ton of chick lit books too waiting to be read. I typed out all the books I have, so I have plenty to read!!

I'm right there with you Katie! I think you brought up a good point that we should have a "Series" heading. I just got a bunch of books (4) from Paperbackswap last week, so I'm good for a couple of weeks.

Me too!!! I love paperbackswap!! I have a TON more but don't want to overwhelm everyone!!! Another good series is Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic books, but I've already read them. But I'd definitely read them again and I highly recommend them!!

I know- I'm holding back too. I've never read any of the Shopaholics, so that would probably be a good place for me to hit next to keep me busy, even if we don't do it as part of the reading club.

The website is www.paperbackswap.com. It's a free paperback "swapping" site. What you do is sign up for the site then it asks you to post 10 (I think) books of your own that you want to swap. Once you post those, you get so many credits (I believe its 3) towards books. Most books are 1 credit a piece. So after you post those books you can request 3 books from the site. It's completely free. All you would pay for is shipping the books people request from you. I think the most I've paid is like $2.58 per book. It's considered media mail, so its cheaper to ship it. You can also purchase credits if you don't have any books to post. I've gotten a ton of books from there already!

Ok, I'll throw some chick lit out there, since that's my fav :)

Technical Hitch by Jane Sigaloff
Summer in the City by Robyn Sisman
Why Not by Shari Low
Dixieland Sushi by Cara Lockwood
Shoe Addicts Anonymous by Beth Harbison

Also, I guess you can consider this a series, but chick lit as well...
The Pact
The Jinx
The Key
The Hunt
All by Jennifer Sturman

I believe these all deal with the same characters...

I am open for about anything for a book. I haven't read much chick lit.
I love Nora Roberts, Lisa Gardner, Lisa Jackson, Tess Gerristin (sp?), Stephen King, Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth Series is amazing).

Thanks ladies! I think we have a great start here. I'll give it a few more days to see if we get any additional suggestions, and then I can put up a poll to decide what we want to read first.

BTW- what I've been doing for author suggestions is pulling the title of the latest book they have published.

:hooray: This is going to be fun!

I'm up for most genres. I'm not a sci-fi/fantasy/historical person though! Shoe Addicts Anonymous was good, so were the Shipaholic series. I have stacks of books to read around the house!

I have been thinking about reading Girls' Night In. It is a collection of short stories by various authors (Jennifer Weiner, Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot, Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, and others). I like the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella.

I adored the Shopaholic series. So cute for chick lit!

Currently, I'm reading "The Kitchen God's Wife" by Amy Tan who wrote the "Joy Luck Club". I think her books are wonderful.

I also read "Playing for Pizza" by John Grisham on vacation last week. Very funny book about a NFL quarterback who goes to play in Italy.

One quick thing about Lisa Gardner's books...there not really a series, but they deal with the same characters. So sometimes she'll mention something about a character and you'll have had to read the previous book in order to know what she's talking about. I don't think it's that big of a deal if people don't care about stuff like that, but just wanted to give you a heads up. All her books are really good, but there are quite a few.

Please add:
Terry Goodkind. Wizards First Rule. (the first in the Sword of Truth Series.) It is a Fantasy novel, I think. One of the few books I can say that I liked more than Harry Potter.

Ah- got it. Do you have a recommendation on one of her earlier books then that would make sense? I agree that it may be okay if they are stand alone stories, but it is kinda nice to "grow" with the characters if you like them- so starting at the beginning would make sense.

Here is the list of her books in order...

The Perfect Husband
The Other Daughter
The Third Victim
The Next Accident
The Survivors Club
The Killing Hour
Alone
Gone
Hide Say Goodbye

If you wanted to list them all, you can. But you can always just start with her very first book...if that one is chosen & read, take it off and add the second one???? They're all really good

I haven't, but they sound like good prospects for our list! I went ahead and added the first one (The Cove) to our list. Thanks!

Quick question...I don't know when you intend to put the "series" in the running, but when you do it, are we going to pick a series and read them all one after the other??? Or just the first one??? Just thinking ahead :)

Great question Katie! My thought is that we could poll the group to find out if they want to run through the entire series. I know personally I like plunging right in and reading an entire set of books, but others may feel differently. If the group would decide not to, I would probably pull the "Series" genre and just list the first title of each one (like we are doing with series suggestions since we kind of filled up on that category). What do you think?

I agree!! When I start a series, I want to finish it. Especially if I like the characters!!! I definitely think polling is the best way to go. That way everyone has a say.

Speaking of series...
One I recently found that I like and want to finish is the Jaz Parks series, written by Jennifer Rardin. Yay for vampire books... ',,'

Oh my GOODNESS!!!! I LOVE to read and I am thanking God for this thread. I feel a Library trip coming on. I'm going to order these Lit suggestions to the library and they'll be in in like a week or so. Can't wait to read'em.
