Default 3rd L&D visit... cerclage out!

Hi Ladies,

Well, after 4 hours of strong contractions 5 mins apart, I decided to visit L&D again last night. Good thing I did since my cervix was apparently a bloody mess from the contractions pulling on the stitch. Ouch! The attending said 'What say we take this thing out now?' and I was definitely down with that plan. After all, it was only 12 hours till the scheduled procedure.

She asked about my pain tolerance and I said I'd prefer to just try to do it 'clean' with no anaesthesia and hope it was a quick and easy snip. Well, it took about 15 minutes of digging since the knot was buried into the tissue (I guess because of all the contractions). So it was... EXTREMELY uncomfortable. But not horrifying or anything. And then it was over! I'm glad I did it that way, cause it also meant I could go home to bed instead of having to deal with catheters and stuff.

Anyway, still contracting, but what else is new? Now I just wait... Could be two days. Could be two weeks. Could be I'll go to 42 weeks. Who knows? But by now, other than the GD and the risk of cervical dystocia, I'm just a 'boring normal pregnoid' And it feels great!

oh my goodness!!!!! So exciting for you! Reading this has helped me to be not so anxious about getting a cerclage done when I get my BFP! I haven't been able to find many ladies that have had it done.

So now it's just a matter of when and I'll be stalking you!!!!!

Hey Sweety, the cerclage is really not that bad! I had a spinal block when they put the thing in (you definitely don't want to do THAT without anaesthesia) but there was hardly any pain afterward and I was back on my feet in 48 hours or so. Then you don't even know it's there until the time comes to take it out. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions when the time comes for you. Hopefully soon soon soon.

I'm so scared that I'll be the small percentage that it doesn't work for. Were you on bed rest? When I get my BFP I will def contact you with more questions. I'm just trying to research and find out everything I cn about the cerclage before I have to get it done.

I was on restricted activity. No exercising, lifting, or stressing out. I was allowed to walk for up to about 10 minutes at a time and could do light stuff around the house, but was supposed to be horizontal as much as possible. There is no scientific evidence to support strict bedrest in cases like ours.

Was yours a classic case of IC? (As in, no contractions, silent dilation of the cervix?) If you were having regular contractions, you may also want to ask about the 17P injections.

I understand your fear! All too well. The best advice I can give you is to practice not being afraid until something actually goes south. That's what kept me sane.

I had no symptoms at all. My water broke when I went to the bathroom and the cord had fallen out. I guess that's what is so scary that you never have any sign that it's coming.

This is great, I remember meeting you in January shortly after your lovely boys passed on and you helped me through my son's passing a few months later. Here's to dirty diapers, lack of sleep, and going to the store in your sweats!!!!

Yes, that is very frightening indeed. The upside is that knowing that it probably WAS classic IC means the chances of your cerclage working are WAY higher! Usually when they fail it's because it wasn't really IC to begin with. But it sounds like yours was (unless there was an infection or something?) I will be rooting for you as each week goes by.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. 7 days till term... Still having strong regular-ish contractions. I wonder what my cervix looks like? They didn't bother checking after they took the stitch out, since mucking around any more up there didn't sound like a happy thing as far as I was concerned. For all I know, I could be good to go at any moment! Or... I could have a 6 week wait ahead of me. Somehow I doubt that though. We'll just see.

Thank you so much! There was no infection in either the placenta or the baby or any bloodwork.I will be testing for my BFP starting the 11th (I've way to many dates that I'm supposed to start AF lol)I O'd on the 29th so the 11th is the earliest but I'll be POAS till AF rear her ugly head.
