I lost my last baby at 15 weeks, and the kicker is that they can't tell me why- could be the amnio I had; could be my Lupus. What's odd to me is that I've been diagnosed with Lupus since I was 23 (they think I've had it longer), and I've had 2 healthy boys. So how is it that my Lupus could have caused me to lose my last baby?
Now that I'm pregnant again (yay, btw ), they tell me that I'm going to have to be on a high potency blood thinner from my first Dr.'s appt. to the end of my pregnancy. That means that I'll have to give myself shots EVERY day.Has anyone else been in this situation? What kind of a pregnancy am I in for having to be on this type of a blood thinner? I know my doctor will explain it all at the visit, but I want to hear from a mama that's been there. |

I have shots once a week, rather than every day, but I can tell you that they get pretty 'old hat' pretty fast. You will be ok! A little sore, but OK. There are other ladies e.g., Jodi P, who are on the daily shots. I think she hangs out in the pregnancy after loss room.
One of the nurses at my high risk practice had to have the daily shots. She lost NINE pregnancies before she carried one to term thanks to the shots, in case that's encouraging. In terms of why you might have carried your boys to term, but not your third child, often something that makes us 'high risk' like lupus, etc. does not directly cause pregnancy loss (so, it's not that IF you have lupus THEN you can't have kids). Rather, it makes it more likely to lose a pregnancy. It's a matter of statistical probability. So, say hypothetically the risk with lupus is 30% (that's just an example, not based on any real info), then it makes sense that you'd be fine twice, and lose a third baby. It's like with heart disease. If you have a 50% chance (again, just as an example) of having heart disease if your dad had it, then maybe you get it, but your sister doesn't. It's just a factor that increases the risk. Not a matter of doom. You're in for a scary road, my dear, but we will be here to keep you company and support you and we are ladies who understand what it is like. Warm best to you!

Hi!
I take blood thinners every day, I give my self the shots, 2 times a day. I hate it, but you really get used to it after a while. Having these shots really havent affected my pregnancy, nor my last pregnany, which I started the shots around 20 ish weeks this pregnancy I've been on them for 2 1/2 wks already. I had an acute care appt. the wk i found out I was preg JUST to get the blood thinners. |
